MOCAPPE in the XBit Open Doors event in Tornio

Apr 24, 2025 | Blog

On Wednesday, the University of Lapland participated in XBit’s open doors event to give talks about XR technology from a business perspective. We also showed demos from the LUX research team. XBit’s event was aimed at businesses, of which there were many. The event also included advice points and sparring clinics.

Experts from Lapland University of Applied Sciences and Santasport have been developing a gamified running application for the large Rodby treadmill for the sports institute’s training and testing facilities during 2025. The running game is entering its final stages, and several demo events and testing days have already been held in this late autumn, where feedback has been collected for the future development of the game.

The project has been active in diverse collaboration throughout the year. A lot of time has been spent on technical testing and development – and it has been part of the learning process, from which we have been able to benefit together with different teams. It is great to witness effective cooperation between different fields, and that is also one of the major goals of the project: to combine the expertise of technology, sports and exercise, as well as virtual reality and service design in the region. In this way, we will grow our own expertise and be able to spread it more widely.

We are looking forward to what 2026 will bring, because there is a strong development spirit within the project! Great demos are expected, and we hope that SMEs and other actors in the region will also be able to test and utilize the environments and their technological possibilities more widely in the coming years.

Follow the project results page in the future for updates.
