Project

MOCAP Systems in Gamifying Sports and Wellness Analysis

The MOCAPPE project will develop three environments that cross the fields of exercise, well-being and technology. The goal is to create innovative, ready-to-use pilots and proof-of-concept demos that enable new gamified sports performances, analysis of the ergonomics of movement and virtual experiences related to exercising and well-being. During the project, expertise in mocap and XR technologies will be developed in Rovaniemi, so that both technologies and the local environments/labs will be more accessible and easily utilized for users in the area.

Funding and Budget

MOCAPPE is an ERDF project funded by the Regional Council of Lapland, with a total budget of 999 847€, of which the EU funding share is 799 874 € (80%) and the project implementers’ own funding shares 20%.

Project development

Work Package 1:
Sports Games

Implementors:
LapUAS & Santasport

The work package will develop two new physically playable sports games for the two sports development environments in Santasport: Sports Lab and Testing & Training environment. In Sports Lab we focus on developing a game implementation based on perceptual motor skills, while in Testing & Training we emphasize performance, technique training and coaching in the game development. The first phase will take place in the Testing & Training environment of the sports institute, after about a year from starting, we will move to Sports Lab.

The implementation methods, sports and content of the games will be defined together with the project partners. The work package also aims to find necessary development points and new potential for their future use in the environments. The end result will be playable sports game demos, which will help develop the use of sports technology in the field of gaming and gain new knowledge in the many subject areas.

Work Package 2:

Ergonomics of physical activity and well-being and the design of virtual experiences

Implementor:
Lapland University

The work package focuses on designing virtual experiences of physical activity, experiences and well-being in the XR Lab environment of the University of Lapland. The goal is to research and develop the user experience of multi-sensory experiences, integrate new XR technologies and implement proof-of-concept demos with companies related to well-being and physical activity. The work package investigates elements that affect the user experience of used technologies.

Proof-of-concept demos are made of various application areas, utilizing the diverse mocap and XR technology of the XR Lab. User experiences are evaluated in pilot testing in cooperation with project partners, and, for example, demo events are organized in the province of Lapland.

We will organize multiple workshops and events during the project, so make sure to follow, in addition to this webpage blog, the FrostBit Software Lab and Lapland University Faculty of Arts social medias!
